In the Spring of 2017, the city of St. John’s was struck with the news that their AHL, and Montreal Canadiens affiliate franchise, would be relocated to Laval, Quebec. Twelve months later, the ECHL announced they would add a new franchise to the hockey crazed province of Newfoundland.
